I was very pleased to speak with NPR’s Rund Abdelfatah for Throughline’s episode “The dramatic race to discover insulin” along with Grant Maltman, Curator of Banting House National Historic Site.

Grant and I shared the story of the insulin’s discovery in 1921-23, the challenges and conflicts faced by JJR Macleod, Frederick Banting, Charles Best and J.B. Collip, and the breakthrough that has since saved the lives of hundreds of millions of people living with diabetes.

Throughline is a podcast that uses sounds and stories to bring history to life.
