Hannah Medal Awarded at Royal Society of Canada Meeting

It was a great honour receive the Jason A Hannah Medal for my book Wondrous Transformations from President Alain Gagnon of the Royal Society of Canada in Montreal on November 14. I was especially grateful to share this memorable moment with several of my family who travelled to be with me.

Attending the COEE2025 Celebration of Excellence & Engagement was a joy. Congratulations to the organizers for such a successful event. I met fellow award winners and newly inducted members and fellows of the Royal Society of Canada who inspired me with their passion for research into subjects ranging from black holes, ancient pathogens and Arctic ecosystems, to the transcultural uses of Shakespeare and the recovery of the lost history of Black cowboys on the Canadian prairies.

I’m so grateful to my agents at Curious Minds Agency and the team at University of North Carolina Press for helping me bring the story of Dr Harry Benjamin to life. Thank you to AMS Healthcare for its invaluable support of healthcare history in Canada, and especially to the nominators and members of the selection committee who found my book worthy of this recognition. And thank you to the Royal Society of Canada for recognizing—with all these awards—the pursuit of questions that matter.
