MacLennan Lecture – University of King’s College, Halifax

I was honoured to deliver the 6th MacLennan Lecture at the University of King’s College, Halifax, on March 12, 2024 on “Harry Benjamin, hormones, and the early history of transgender healthcare.” Over the two days of my visiting lectureship, I had the pleasure of spending time with faculty and students from History of Science and Technology, Gender and Women’s Studies, and the Global Health Office of the Faculty of Medicine. It was an enriching and invigorating experience for me.

The MacLennan Lecture funds a visiting scholar to present a public lecture in the field of Science and Technology Studies or in History and Philosophy of Science. I had the special pleasure of meeting Oriel MacLennan, whose generous gift established this program in 2017.

Thank you to History of Science and Technology student Emma Martel for her lovely blog post describing my time in Halifax as visiting lecturer.
